Hawkins Ash CPAs is a regional, full-service public accounting firm. Since 1956, we have provided consistent, thoughtful, and difference-making audit, accounting, tax and consulting services to clients in Wisconsin, Minnesota and across the United States. We are a growing firm with currently seven offices in Wisconsin and three offices in Minnesota. Firm-wide, we have 170 professionals and 22 partners.

Hawkins Ash CPAs was formed with the merging of Richard Hawkins’ sole proprietorship and the partnership of James Ash and David Baptie in August of 1956. View our history timeline below to learn more.
Our Firm Was Founded
August 1, 1956
Hawkins Ash CPAs was founded as a result of merging the sole practice of Richard G. Hawkins and the partnership of James O. Ash and David D. Baptie in La Crosse, WI. With 14 employees, the firm’s first year’s billings totaled $4,000. It was reported that the three founding partners survived on a lot of apples and cigars.
July 1, 1975
Our Manitowoc, WI, office opened through acquisition. An additional acquisition occurred in 1985. The office moved to its current location on Waldo Blvd. in 1988.
Today, the office has two partners, five CPAs, and 16 total employees.
December 1, 1978
Our Marshfield, WI, office opened through acquisition. Additional acquisitions occurred in 2009 and 2010.
The office currently has two partners, five CPAs, and 13 total employees.

Our Medford, WI, office opened through acquisition.
Today, the office has one partner, two CPAs and 12 total employees.
The firm purchased its first computer in 1979. In December of 1984, the management committee approved the purchase of computers, or “micros,” for all staff members. They were used primarily for tax returns financial statements, trial balances and lead schedules, depreciation schedules, and analytical reviews. Today, our firm continues to stay ahead of technology trends. We currently enjoy digital offices, allowing employees to remotely work together across two states, and service clients nationwide. We are a paperless firm.

Our Winona, MN, office opened. In 2013, an acquisition expanded the office.
There is currently one partner, two CPAs, and 11 total employees.
May 1, 1983
This year, the firm registered its logo as a trademark. Logo unveiling celebrations included a flag raising ceremony at our La Crosse office.
HAB Inc. was formed as a subsidiary of the firm to market and sell computer services, which included accounting software to public housing authorities. In 2007, the housing software division was sold to employees and still operates in La Crosse. Our firm continues to provide fee accounting and consulting services to nearly 150 Public Housing Authorities throughout the U.S.
Green Bay, WI
July 1, 1988
Our Green Bay, WI, office opened through acquisition. In 2003, this office moved to De Pere, WI. After 10 years, it relocated back to Green Bay to its current location following an expansion via acquisition. Today, our Green Bay office has five partners, 11 CPAs, and 29 total employees. In 1988, the firm acquired a practice in Sturgeon Bay, WI. It was sold in 2002.

The firm registered as a Limited Liability Partnership and was officially named Hawkins, Ash, Baptie & Company, LLP.
La Crosse Office Moves and Expands
September 1, 2008
Our La Crosse, WI, office expanded and moved to its current location. The office has four partners, 14 CPAs, and 49 employees. This location serves as our firm headquarters and center of our fee accounting division.

The firm rebrands and now operates as Hawkins Ash CPAs, LLP.

Our firm’s Rochester, MN, office opened through acquisition.
This office has two partner, five CPAs, and twelve total employees.
St. Charles, MN

Our St. Charles, MN, office opened via acquisition.
